A good façade finish starts long before the final coat goes on the wall. It starts with the right materials, and this is where a specialist trade branch can make a real difference.

With branches located in Birmingham, Coventry and Leicester, The Facade Hub gives contractors, installers, builders, and property developers access to a wide range of rendering materials, with the right technical support available to match products to real site conditions. From basecoats and insulation boards to silicone render and finishing tools, our locations are set up for projects where reliability matters.

This post explores our range of products and shares a silicone render case study completed by an existing customer.

Our branches support full render system supply

As an example, a silicone render finish requires the right substrate preparation, base layer and reinforcement. If one part is wrong, the whole finish can suffer. We pride ourselves on bringing all these parts together. Rather than sourcing materials from several suppliers, customers can plan around a more complete package.

Typical product areas include:

  • Silicone render systems

A popular choice for residential and commercial exteriors, silicone render gives a clean, modern finish and is well suited to UK weather conditions when installed as part of the correct system.

  • Basecoats and adhesives

These create the foundation for the reinforced layer and help prepare the wall before the decorative finish is applied.

  • Reinforcement mesh

Mesh helps control cracking and adds strength to the render build-up, especially around openings and areas exposed to movement.

  • Primers and preparatory products

Primers help improve adhesion and even out suction before the final finish goes on.

  • Beads, trims, and profiles

Corner beads, stop beads, drip beads, bellcast beads, and movement profiles help create sharp edges and control water run-off.

  • External wall insulation materials

Insulation boards, mechanical fixings, adhesives, and associated accessories support projects where thermal performance is part of the brief.

  • Tools and application accessories

Floats, trowels, mixing paddles, scrapers, tapes, and protective materials help installers complete the job cleanly and consistently.

This makes our locations a practical stop for both small domestic jobs and larger façade works where matching materials is essential.

Case Study: Henley in Arden

A&D Plastering utilised materials supplied by The Facade Hub's Birmingham branch for a garden renovation project. The exterior property and garden walls were tired and the customer wanted a cleaner, more modern appearance without losing the practical benefits needed for everyday weather exposure.

The project involved:

  • Removal of old system back to brick

  • Preparation of the substrate prior to new system

  • Base layer and mesh embedding

  • Silicone render finish applied after priming

This was a particularly challenging project due to the condition of the brickwork following removal of an existing system, but the right basecoat was recommended in order to fill out cavities and uneven areas. A Mapei Silicone finish was then applied in an off-white colour.

The finished façade had a sharper, brighter look, with the silicone render bringing the elevations together visually.

The primary takeaway from the project was simple: the final coat looked good because the layers beneath it were planned properly.

This is the part of render work that often goes unseen. A neat silicone finish depends on straight beads, sound basecoats, consistent mesh coverage, and careful timing between coats.

What contractors can source for similar projects

For similar silicone render jobs, customers may need more than the render tub itself. A typical order could include:

Material

Role on the project

Basecoat

Creates the reinforced backing layer

Reinforcement mesh

Helps reduce cracking and strengthen the system

Primer

Prepares the base for the silicone topcoat

Silicone render

Provides the coloured textured finish

Beads and trims

Forms corners, stops, drips, and clean edges

Protection materials

Keeps windows, paths, and surrounding areas clean

Finishing tools

Helps achieve consistent texture and application

For external wall insulation projects, the list may also include insulation boards, fixings, adhesives, starter tracks, and specialist profiles. This is where ordering from a specialist supplier helps, because the accessories are just as important as the main materials.

A practical takeaway for façade projects

Our strategically located depots are more than points to collect render. It supports the full build-up behind a clean, durable finish, including base materials, reinforcement, primers, trims, insulation products, tools, and silicone render systems.

The case study we have outlined shows the same point in practice. A good finish comes from planning the layers, choosing compatible materials, and paying attention to detail from substrate to topcoat.

For the next render or façade project, start with the whole system, not just the colour chart. That is the best route to a finish that looks right on day one and continues to perform well after the scaffolding comes down.
